Tracking heat and humidity today, rain chances tomorrow

THIS AFTERNOON: Hot and increasingly humid, with highs in the mid-90s and a heat index above 100 degrees.

TONIGHT: A spot shower is possible around sunset, but most stay quiet. Lows fall to the mid-70s under mostly clear skies.

EXTENDED: Rain chances will increase tomorrow morning as a cold front slowly tracks in from the north. Spotty rain is possible Wednesday morning, but many could stay dry and see temperatures climb to the mid-90s again. More widespread rain arrives in the afternoon and evening, with an isolated chance for strong winds. Heavy rain continues mostly along and south of I-70 through Thursday morning, where over 2 inches of rain is possible in some spots. Take it slow Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, and watch for light flooding. We'll dry out slowly on Thursday, and temperatures will be much cooler in the lower 80s. On-and-off rain chances may continue through the weekend, keeping temperatures much closer to average in the mid-80s.
