Tracking a cooler and wetter pattern this week

TODAY: Tuesday brings warmth back into the forecast after a relatively nice Memorial Day. As we all head back to work, the week starts warm with highs in the 90s, feeling like 103-105 in the central to western portions of the viewing area. In the east, some will only reach heat indexes in the upper 90s. Sunny skies are expected with a light south breeze. Most of the day appears dry, but some pop-up showers and storms appear possible, especially south of I-70 and west of Highway 54.

TONIGHT: The overnight hours are mostly dry, but some showers may return from the north by sunrise. Rainfall should be spotty in coverage and fairly light. Temperatures remain warm with south winds and an increase in clouds.

EXTENDED: Overnight and into early Wednesday, rain chances return in a spotty to scattered manner. Some lightning may be possible with morning rainfall, but thunderstorm chances grow into the afternoon, with coverage potentially remaining sparse through the afternoon. There will be dry time, and I don't expect most locations to receive rain all day; however, rain chances will be present throughout the day. Rain chances are forecast overnight into Thursday morning, but this will focus south of I-70. Rain is forecast to end in Mid-Missouri by Thursday afternoon. With an active pattern forecast in the upper atmosphere through the weekend, our heat is unlikely to return this week, and rain chances remain, albeit low. Highs are forecast in the 80s Thursday through Monday.
