Tracking brutal heat lasting into the weekend

THIS AFTERNOON: Sunny and dangerously hot, with a heat index near 100 degrees. Winds from the southwest will be noticeable at 5 to 15 mph.

TONIGHT: Temperatures remain warm through sunset in the upper 80s. Lows fall to the upper 70s by the end of the night.

EXTENDED: A Heat Advisory remains in effect areawide through Saturday for a heat index up to 100 degrees each afternoon. Kickoff at the Mizzou football game Thursday evening will be hot in the 90s. We may fall a few degrees as a weak cold front moves through Saturday night, but highs remain above normal in the low to mid 90s through Labor Day. Rain chances are very low over the weekend. Summer-like heat looks to persist further into next week as well, keeping highs in the 90s.
