Pettis County sues DNR over construction permits for landfill

MGN

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Pettis County Commission filed a lawsuit on Thursday in Cole County against the Department of Natural Resources over a multi-year issue involving a construction permit for a landfill.

The county is accusing the DNR and Presidio of two counts of noncompliance and a single count of prematurely issuing a construction permit.

The petition says the issue has been going on since 2022 and that county ordinances only permit Pettis County to have one landfill, which it already does.

A court date has not been scheduled in the case.

The petition also references a multi-year lawsuit between Mid-Mo Waste and Pettis County, where a partial judgement was reached against the county. A hearing in the case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
