Tracking dangerous heat into the weekend with few storm chances

TODAY: Friday is another dangerously hot day across mid-Missouri, and another ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. We expect another afternoon of heat indexes in the 105-110 range, much like on Thursday. Storm chances are slim, but isolated to scattered storms will be possible north of I-70.

TONIGHT: Skies clear again tonight, with temperatures expected to remain warm.

EXTENDED: Saturday is another dangerously hot day, and so another Weather Alert Day. We'll be nearing 105 by the afternoon. One caveat on Saturday is the potential for better mixing of the air in the near-surface atmosphere. The front will also be lifting northward on Saturday, decreasing the amount of humidity pooling near the front. These two factors MAY be enough to limit our dangerous heat, but models have not handled these factors well historically, so to be safe, you should expect dangerous heat one more day. A cold front nears Saturday night into Sunday, bringing rain chances and clouds to the northern half of the region by Sunday morning. Sunday is expected to be cooler thanks to the rain and cloud cover, but highs in the low 90s will still make for a steamer of a day. Highs drop into the 80s with lingering rain chances on Monday. A slow and modest warmup ensues from Tuesday into the middle of next week.
