Tracking the return of sunshine and intense heat approaching

TODAY: After yesterday's downpours sunshine returns to mid-Missouri this afternoon. As remnants of the system make their way out of the region, some lingering drops are possible, but the majority will remain dry and enjoy a partly cloudy sky. Heat does steadily increase with highs in the upper 80s this afternoon, and humidity will bump feels-like temperatures into the mid to upper 90s.

TONIGHT: It'll be a muggy night for most across the region, and that residual moisture does allow for a pop-up chance, primarily to the south. Once we approach the overnight hours, skies will start to clear with lows dropping to the mid 60s.

EXTENDED: Heat will be the story of the weekend and the early half of next week, as temps begin to climb. Saturday looks to reach the high 80s, and Sunday through Tuesday will see highs reaching the 90s. Humidity throughout the next several days will bump feels-like temperatures into the triple digits, which is considered extreme heat. If you're spending any extended time outside over the next several days, make sure you stay hydrated, and have a shaded or air conditioned location nearby. We'll see some relief Tuesday night with the passing of a cold front, which will also allow for rain chances into Thursday.
