Tracking heavy rain and flash flooding, intense heat this weekend

TODAY: Rain continues to come down hard in mid-Missouri, as totals have already reached over 3 inches in same areas. Flash flooding will continue to be a concern today, as several reports of localized flooding and even some rescue operations have already come in today. Expect heavy rain to continue throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.

TONIGHT: Rain will steadily taper as we move through the evening tonight, with the chance for some isolated pop-up showers. Expect low temperatures in the lower 70s.

EXTENDED: Rain chances continue into Friday, with the chance for isolated showers lasting through the evening. Once we hit the overnight hours on Friday, the last of the showers should be passed through, and a dry weekend is expected. That said, with a warm front passing through in the wake of these storms, heat will be an issue into next week. Heat indexes look to reach the triple digits, as ambient temperatures will hover in the low 90s early into next week. Sunshine is expected to last throughout the week, but rain chances do increase starting Tuesday, ahead of a slight cooldown.
