Tracking less heat and another late-week rain chance

TODAY: Wednesday brings more gradual cooling, with an east breeze around 5-10 mph. Temperatures will still reach near 90 degrees, but dew points are falling through the day. We'll be summer-like and humid, but not as extremely hot as days past. Heat indexes are forecast in the low 90s.

TONIGHT: Temperatures fall into the upper 60s overnight, while dewpoints fall into the low 60s and upper 50s.

EXTENDED: This makes for a more comfortable start on Thursday, but still not fall-like conditions. Thursday will bring an increase in clouds after a sunny Wednesday. This and a few showers will be possible in response to an upper-level wave deepening across the plains. This brings a chance for showers and thunderstorms overnight into Friday. Rain totals are expected to range from 0.25 to 0.75 inches. High temperatures are expected in the upper 80s on Thursday, and may not climb above 85 degrees for some on Friday thanks to rainfall. Behind the cold front that brings rain on Friday, Saturday's high may be in the low 80s at the warmest, if not held in the 70s. A few showers are possible Saturday, but dry weather is expected alongside partly cloudy skies on Sunday and into early next week.
