Tracking relief from the extreme heat

TODAY: Tuesday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as we'll have a chance for heat indexes in the 100-105 range. A cold front is moving into the region today and will bring relief from the heat with time. Most should feel slight relief today, compared to Sunday and Monday. Along the cold front will come a chance for light rain as showers and possibly weak thunderstorms move from northwest to southeast along the cold front. This will have little impact, as dry air at the low levels of the atmosphere will likely limit rainfall amounts. Still, evaporative cooling of drying raindrops and clouds will likely have a cooling effect to a degree. Concern for heat still remains along and south of I-70, where we still have a heat Advisory.

TONIGHT: Some showers linger to sunset, but we'll be mostly dry and clear overnight. Temperatures fall to the low 70s and dew points return to the low 60s.

EXTENDED: Relief from the heat deepens on Wednesday, when highs are forecast in the 80s with dewpoints in the low 60s. Some MAY feel dew points in the 50s at times, but the extent of dry air returning behind the cold front is less certain. Thursday starts sunny, but clouds increase ahead of rain chances Thursday night into Friday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible on Friday. High temperatures are forecast in the 80s for the rest of the week. The forecast is trending drier over the weekend.
