Tracking intensifying heat and low storm chances through the weekend

TODAY: I'm tracking a warm, quiet start to the day as temperatures begin in the low to mid 70s. By the afternoon hours, mostly sunny conditions and breezy winds at 8-12 mph, gusting up to 20 mph, will help temperatures get into the low 90s, although humidity will make it feel closer to 100 during this time. Isolated, short-lived storms will be possible during the afternoon hours, but most will remain dry.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking mostly dry conditions, except for a couple of lingering showers being possible overnight as temperatures drop back down into the low 70s. Winds are expected to calm down as they continue to blow out of the southwest at 3-6 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking another hot day ahead on Sunday as temperatures by the afternoon hours are expected to get back into the low 90s, with humidity making it feel near 100 during the peak heat of the day. A stalled front near I-70 will trigger more chances of isolated thunderstorms throughout the afternoon hours, this time with slightly more coverage than what is expected on Saturday. These chances will fall apart overnight, leaving Mid-Missouri with a mostly dry forecast to start the week. Heat is only expected to intensify Monday afternoon, as temperatures get into the mid-90s and feel like temperatures near 105, which is mainly why a heat advisory is in effect until Tuesday evening for areas like Columbia and eastward. After Tuesday, relief will be observed as a stronger front passes through, bringing cooler, less humid air. Wednesday through Friday, temperatures are expected to only get up into the low to mid 80s each afternoon. With this, could come scattered showers and storm chances to end the week.
