SEC cancels spring sports competition

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The SEC has canceled the remainder of the spring sports season, according to a release from the league.

The SEC made the decision due to concerns surrounding COVID-19. This includes all spring football practices and games. There will also be no pro days from any SEC school.

"This is a difficult day for all of us, and I am especially disappointed for our student-athletes," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a release. "The health and well-being of our entire conference community is an ongoing priority for the SEC as we continue to monitor developments and information about the COVID-19 virus."

Other out-of-season sports activities will be suspended until at least April 15. This includes practices, meetings or other organized activities.

The SEC said it will continue to communicate with public health officials and medical experts to help navigate through concerns surrounding COVID-19.

The SEC will issue automatic ticket refunds for the SEC softball and baseball tournaments by March 31 - as long as fans purchased the tickets from the SEC office or an SEC university.

The Mizzou baseball finished the season 11-5 overall. The Tigers won their last seven games.

The Mizzou softball team finished the season 19-7 overall and 3-0 in the SEC. The Tigers tied with Florida for the best conference record.
