Tracking the return of warmer air into the weekend

TODAY: Thursday is a bit wetter than Wednesday was for many. Deeper atmospheric moisture and a few upper-level disturbances will pivot through the region on Thursday and Friday. This will present us with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms starting anytime after noon, and lasting through roughly sunset. These storms are expected to be small, with plenty of dry time between them. If you find yourself in a shower or storm today, expect it to be short-lived. Lightning, periods of heavy rain, and gusty winds are likely, but we lack support for storms capable of severe-level winds. However, moderate wind gusts could still be a nuisance.

TONIGHT: Storms will wane with sunset, and we'll be dry and mostly clear overnight. Temperatures cool into the 70s shortly before midnight, and we'll start Friday near 70 degrees once again.

EXTENDED: More isolated to scattered storms are possible on Friday, but the mechanisms responsible for storms on Thursday start to pivot east, taking the best chances with them. We'll be mostly sunny and dry on Friday. Highs on Friday are near 90, with dewpoints in the 70s. This means both Thursday and Friday will feel like the low 90s during the heat of the day. Temperatures are likely warmer on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Under sunny skies, these days look like the warmest in the forecast. With dewpoints in the low 70s, we should expect heat indexes in the high 90s to potentially low 100s at the most. Chances for rain are not zero Saturday through Monday, but they are negligible at the moment. Isolated storms may bubble up in this window, but confidence is low.
