Tracking scattered storms and humid air Thursday

TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy and warm with lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Scattered storms and humid with heat index values in the upper 90s.

EXTENDED: The upper level pattern begins to shift as high pressure moves east and a wave of low pressure moves in our direction from the southeast. These two features working in tandem will pull in more Gulf moisture, and the low will trigger scattered showers and storms between about lunch time and sunset on Thursday. Storms will likely stay sub-severe, but the high water content in the air mass over the region will allow storms to become efficient rainfall producers with high rainfall rates. Storms will diminish as we lose peak heating when the sun goes down. As the aforementioned low works northeast, we'll see limited storm chances from Friday through the weekend. With air temperatures in the lower 90s and dew points in the low 70s, the heat index could reach 100 degrees from Saturday through Monday. A slow moving, weak cold front will set up to our northeast early next week, pointing toward a cooler air mass as the jet stream tries to set up more northwesterly over our area. We could see a few showers or storms near the front between Monday night and Tuesday with slightly cooler air expected by mid-next week.
