A Columbia man who was found guilty of manslaughter in 2024 lost his appeal.

Cadilac Derrick, 39, was found guilty by a Boone County jury of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, voluntary manslaughter, second-degree domestic assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He was sentenced to 62 years in prison.

Derrick was accused of shooting and killing two Columbia women – Lea'johna Sanders, 22, and Laura Myers, 53 – on Nov. 5, 2022, in the 1600 block of Boyd Lane.

Derrick filed an appeal in December 2024 in the Western District of Missouri. The court ruled on Tuesday that said the court did not abuse its discretion in denying a motion to sever. Derrick also argued the domestic assault charges should not have been included. The court ruled against it and determined his sentencing should stand.
