Jefferson City has seen a nearly 18% increase in the number of tickets for expired meters issued through the first six months of the year.

Last year, from Jan. 6-June 30, the city issued 3,963 tickets, an average of 660.5 per month. This year, 4,674 tickets were issued during the same period, resulting in an average of 779 per month.

This comes after the City Council last year approved PCI Municipal Services LLC to oversee its parking operations for a five-year period beginning this year.

In December, the council also approved a parking fine hike to make all parking violations $25. A fine for metered parking was previously $6. This comes after the Madison Street parking garage was demolished as crews work to build the new downtown conference center.

ABC 17 News has asked the city for the parking revenue it has accrued so far this year.
