Tracking a hot Friday with a few storms possible

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with a few isolated storms diminishing by sunset. Lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with a few spotty storms in the afternoon. Highs in the low 90s with a heat index between 100-103.

EXTENDED: The upper ridge responsible for our hot and dry pattern will begin to flatten a bit more on Friday, allowing a few disturbances to slide through the jet stream and trigger at least isolated chances for storms. A couple pop-up storms will be possible in the afternoon, with a cluster of storms possibly developing to our north along a cold front to our north by Friday night. A few of those storms may last into Saturday morning, perhaps bringing a bit of cloud cover and showers to the northern part of the state to start of Independence Day. The afternoon will be hot and humid, but we may see a few more storms triggered by residual boundaries over the area left behind from the morning round. Isolated to scattered storms will be possible on Saturday night into Sunday, with heat holding on as highs make it to about 90 degrees. Next week is still looking hot and humid with high pressure building across the region, and highs near 90 degrees with heat indexes in the upper 90s.The front looks to stall in the area for much of next week, leading to daily chances for a few showers and storms, but widespread measurable rain isn't looking likely.
