Tracking triple-digit heat moving in

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly sunny and dangerously hot, with a heat index above 100 degrees in some spots. Winds from the south will be steady at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

TONIGHT: Hot in the evening, with the heat index above 90 degrees through sunset. Temperatures fall to the 70s overnight with heavy humidity.

EXTENDED: The heat will peak midweek, and a string of ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days goes into effect from Tuesday through Thursday for a potential heat index between 105 and 110 degrees each day. High pressure may weaken somewhat into the weekend, but we'll likely remain near triple-digit territory through the Fourth. Slim rain chances will also return to the forecast over the weekend, but are unlikely to bring widespread relief.
