Jefferson City to name basketball court after former Jay, NBA Champion OG Anunoby

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City High School is honoring the legacy of one of its most accomplished Jay alums.

On Thursday night, the Jefferson City School District Board of Education unanimously voted to name the court at Fleming Fieldhouse after Ogugua "OG" Anunoby. That news comes after the 2015 graduate played an integral role in the New York Knicks' first NBA Championship in 53 years.

Over the course of New York's postseason run, Anunoby not only served as a strong defensive presence, but also averaged 20.1 points per game during the playoffs. The most iconic moment of his career, thus far, came in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against San Antonio, when Jefferson City's own tipped in the game-winning bucket to cap off the largest comeback in Finals history.

However, the 2026 title was not his first in the NBA. Anunoby is a two-time champion, having won with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

In a press release, Jefferson City High School said that Anunoby's signature will be prominently displayed on the court at Fleming Fieldhouse, following a dedication ceremony sometime in the fall of 2026. Throughout all of his success, the former Jay has always made his way back home. In fact, he's routinely hosted a free youth basketball camp for middle and high school students in the Jefferson City School district.

"Through his dedication, work ethic, and leadership both on and off the court, Anunoby serves as an inspiration and role model for young athletes in Jefferson City and around the world," Jefferson City High School noted in a press release.
