Tracking a few storms Wednesday, heavy rain between Thursday and Friday

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the lower to mid-60s.

TOMORROW: Chance of a few storms, partly cloudy with highs in the lower 80s.

EXTENDED: Tonight will be cloudier and mild with lows in the lower 60s, and areas across western Missouri may get clipped by a storm complex late tonight as it dives out of Kansas into southwest Missouri. Lingering energy could trigger a few showers and storms tomorrow afternoon, especially along and south of I-70, so temperatures likely won't climb much above 80 in these areas. A front moves in and stalls across Mid-Missouri on Thursday, at the same time as a wave of energy slides in from the west and low level moisture ramps up across the region. Higher moisture content in the air could allow storms to have high rainfall rates, and with the stalled front we may see rounds of storms over the same areas, potentially bringing flooding to some areas between Thursday and Friday. 1-3"+ rain will be possible through Friday night, though there may be some dry time in between storms, especially on Friday. The front begins to lift to the north as a warm front and allow even higher dew points to creep in, along with warmer temperatures as winds will be out of the south under high pressure. If the front lifts far enough north, that will keep the storm track away from Mid-Missouri and effectively end rain chances into early next week. Heat continues to build with highs getting into the 90s by Sunday and beyond, coupled with high dew points in the 70s. The combination will create dangerous heat, and potentially trigger a Weather Alert Day if we become confident there will be heat index values at or above 105. We do see the potential for triple digit heat from Sunday into most of next week.
