Tracking more strong to severe storms before a much cooler forecast

TODAY: I'm tracking plenty of sunshine throughout the rest of the afternoon hours as temperatures warm into the low 80s thanks to the cold front last night that brought strong to severe storms. Winds will be light and out of the north during the day.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking an increase in clouds during the evening and overnight hours ahead of a warm front that will bring the potential for showers and storms along and south of I-70 by the end of the night. Temperatures are expected to cool into the low 60s as winds shift into the southeast at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 15 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking dry time after morning showers and storms that will last throughout the majority of Saturday afternoon as temperatures warm into the upper 70s and low 80s. This will allow for instability to build before another cold front passes through the area Saturday evening, leading to the potential for a line of strong to severe storms for Saturday evening and overnight hours. This is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect before sunshine and much cooler weather arrive by Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, expect temperatures to start in the low 60s, only warming into the low 70s by the afternoon hours. This cooler, drier weather will continue into Monday before a gradual warm-up begins Tuesday through Thursday. During this warmup, shower and storm chances will gradually return to the forecast.
