Tracking strong to severe storms with all hazards possible today

THIS AFTERNOON: An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect for severe storms capable of all hazards today. Storms will first arrive from the northwest by 3 to 4 p.m. in places like Macon, Brunswick, and Marshall, then move into Mexico, Columbia, Jefferson City, and Versailles around dinnertime, between 5 and 7 p.m. Storms reach I-44 before sunset, and all hazards remain possible through the evening. A few tornadoes, wind gusts above 60 to 70 mph, and hail larger than an inch are all possible.

TONIGHT: Storms exit quickly overnight, leaving half an inch to an inch of rainfall. Temperatures fall steeply overnight to the upper 50s and low 60s.

EXTENDED: Friday will be a much nicer day with sunshine and highs in the 80s, and lower humidity. However, we are expecting more rain chances this weekend, with a risk of stronger storms on Saturday afternoon. Rain may linger into early Sunday, but drier weather is favored to close the weekend, and temperatures will be even cooler in the 70s. These below-average temps are expected through Tuesday, but rain chances toward the end of next week will also bring a gradual warmup back to the 80s.
