Tracking another round of storms tonight, dangerous heat tomorrow

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with storms returning late. Some storms could produce heavy rain. Lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Morning rain and storms clear out by about midday. Highs reaching near 90 with a heat index approaching 105.

EXTENDED: Another cluster of storms will approach from the west along a stalled frontal boundary across the region, bringing the potential for isolated strong wind gusts and heavy rain up to an additional inch after midnight through late Tuesday morning. Very moist conditions hang on even as rain passes on Tuesday with dew points climbing into the lower 70s. As highs get to near 90, the heat index could reach 105 degrees in some spots, prompting a Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service and an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. Highs reach near 90 again on Wednesday, and it looks to be another brutally hot day with the heat index getting to 100-103. A slow moving front could bring strong to severe storms to northern Missouri by Wednesday evening, with a level 2/5 risk stretching as far south as the I-70 corridor. Mid-Missouri will have a better chance of severe storms by late Thursday afternoon into the evening as we'll have plenty of moisture and instability, along with an increase in wind shear as the cold front drops south. All hazards will be possible, with the main concern being damaging winds between 60-70 mph. We'll be more comfortable in the wake of storms on Friday as temperatures drop back into the low 80s. A few storms will be possible over the weekend, but severe risks are looking low at this time.
