Weather Alert Day: Heavy rain and a few strong storms possible tonight into Monday

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day effective from this evening through midday Monday for the potential of thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain capable of flash flooding. A few storms have been rotating on Sunday night, prompting a Tornado Watch across southwest Missouri that includes Camden Co. until 10:00 p.m.

A round of slow moving storms came through Mid-Missouri early on Sunday, dumping anywhere from 1-3" of rain and causing localized flooding around Boone County.

A Flood Watch is in effect until 1:00 p.m. Monday for much of Mid-Missouri, where another 1-3" of rain will be possible overnight through Monday morning. More than 2-3" of rain fell across parts of Pettis County on Sunday afternoon as a strong storm moved through.

A stationary boundary parked across the state has triggered slow moving storms, and low level winds are expected to pick up tonight, adding to the moisture across the region.

Precipitable water values are also much higher than normal, allowing for any storms to have a higher moisture content and thus higher rainfall rates as they slowly drift north-northeast.

Flooded roads will be the main concern into the Monday morning commute. Be sure to turn around and find a different route if you encounter a covered road. Storms look to exit by afternoon, leaving us warm and muggy through the rest of the day.
