Beyond the Game: Columbia youth bowling star Preston Baehman
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Hickman freshman Preston Baehman went 'Beyond the Game' with ABC 17 Sports Reporter Collin Anderson, after winning the Missouri Youth Doubles tournament, and scoring a perfect 300.
You can watch Baehman's full edition of the 'Beyond the Game' on ABC 17 News at six. You can also find a full transcript of the interview below.
Collin Anderson: "What's up everyone? Welcome in to Beyond the Game, where I'm joined by one of Columbia High School's premier youth bowlers, Preston Baehman, and we're going to play a little bowling. We're going to have our own little match, I'm going to get destroyed, but it is what it is."
Collin: "So how did you get into bowling?"
Preston Baehman: "Well, I got into bowling whenever I was five. I would always carry these little plastic pins around to my brother's baseball games. So for my fifth birthday I asked for a bowling ball and bowling shoes, and we went to the lanes, and my coach Josh Johnson he came up to my parents and said, 'This kid is going to be a star one day.'"
Collin: "You've been playing for a decade, and you just got your first 300 recently. Can you just kind of walk me through that game?"
Preston: "So we were bowling in a tournament, and I was just kind of there with my friends, just like 'Hey lets see what happens.' It actually played out in my favor too, and that's good that I was able to easily follow my lines and just have 12 consecutive."
Collin: "You also recently won the state doubles tournament with your partner, you've talked about him a few times. What was that whole tournament like for you guys?"
Preston: "We've been to many others before, so it's just like, just do it again. Just have fun and don't get too down. That's the good thing about us is if someone's having a bad game, the other one usually carries them with like a 250."
Collin: "What's the next tournament you've got your eye on?"
Preston: "Junior Golds. It's a huge youth national tournament up there in Minneapolis, Minnesota."
Collin: "Well, clearly I have a ways to go before I am competing in any bowling tournament of any kind, but Preston still has a bright future ahead of him. Best of luck to you, and you've just gone beyond the game."
