Insider Blog: Slow and steady rainfall has left some with rain in the gauge while many remain dry

UPDATE: As of 10:30 a.m. at least a quarter of an inch of rain has fallen in Columbia after a heavy shower spread through the city. Sanborn Field on the University of Missouri Campus is reporting 0.31". The Columbia Regional Airport is reporting 0.17"

Showers from Thursday night through this morning have brought steady light to moderate, if not at times heavy, rainfall to some in the lake region. More rain and even thunderstorms are anticipated, but no severe weather or flood risk is currently expected.

As of this morning, that rain has spread north into Jefferson City, Ashland, Columbia, Fayette, and nearby areas. Rain may have reached as far north as Moberly, Centralia, Mexico, and Fulton, but little to no rain has been reported in these locations as of 9:40 a.m.

Rain totals from the last 24 hours are estimated from radar at up to 8/10 of an inch in Camden County, with totals near a trace in Columbia, Fulton, and Jefferson City.

Rain is expected to taper and slow through midday, with another chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms this evening, leaving showers lingering into the overnight. More measurable rain is likely, but for many, the bulk of the rain has already fallen.

Areas that haven't seen much rain so far in the northeast will have a better chance of showers and storms the rest of the day.
