Tracking chances for thunderstorms to start the week

TODAY: Sunday is warm and mostly dry, outside of the few showers on radar before daybreak. These are likely to dry up after sunrise, leaving us partly cloudy through much of the morning. By this afternoon, we expect mostly sunny skies. High temperatures should reach the upper 80s, with enough humidity to have us feeling like 90°. For those with outdoor work to do, there will be a breeze, albeit a warm one. South winds are sustained near 15-20 mph this afternoon, with gusts up to 30 mph in some spots. The strongest breeze will be in the west.

TONIGHT: Quiet and warm weather is anticipated this evening, with 80s forecast through sunset. After midnight, storms that develop in Nebraska and Kansas earlier in the evening may drift into mid-Missouri. A low chance of strong winds is the primary threat that will accompany these storms.

EXTENDED: Storms may be present through 9 a.m. on Monday, so be prepared for a rainy start to the work day. Lightning and a few strong wind gusts are possible. Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, primarily due to a greater chance for strong storms in the evening. Instability will build back into the region after morning rain, ahead of another development of storms just west of Kansas City. These storms are likely to move in our direction, bringing another chance for damaging winds and hail. A tornado will be possible, but unlikely, in mid-Missouri. Storms will likely begin to weaken as they arrive late in the night. Another round of storms is possible Tuesday afternoon before the cold front pushes east. Temperatures will likely be a bit cooler in the west, but by Wednesday, most are notably cooler as highs stick near 70°, if not in the upper 60s. Wednesday and Thursday are mostly dry, but showers are possible again by the weekend.
