COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 71-year-old man who was accused of robbing a downtown Columbia bank earlier this year has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Basil Kyles, of Columbia, is charged with bank robbery, brandishing a gun during a violent crime and being a felon with a gun, according to a Thursday press release from the Department of Justice.

Kyles allegedly pulled out a gun on Feb. 14 at First Mid Bank on North Fifth Street in downtown Columbia and demanded money from a teller, court documents in previous reporting show. He allegedly walked away with $6,000 in a Walmart bag and was seen on multiple cameras walking south, the statement says.

Kyles was allegedly identified by another business owner and a couple had told police they bought him an Uber ride to his apartment, previous reporting says. Police found a gun and $5,140 in cash at his apartment.
