Mizzou women’s golf qualifies for NCAA Championships for second time in school history

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For the first time since 2005, the Mizzou women have qualified as a team for the NCAA Golf Championships.

In just her fourth year with the team, Coach Westrup Gaeta lead Mizzou reach the NCAA Championships for the first time in more than two decades.

The Tigerswere able to secure a fifth place finish as a team, shooting +8 across the competition. Mizzou bounced around the cut line, but was able to outlast Vanderbilt for the last spot out of the Stanford region.

Monday's opening round was lead by senior Jade Zamora, who finished the first 18 holes -2 as the Tigers found themselves in a tie for sixth. The second round was a much better outing for the Tigers, shooting even par across the board, with Melanie walker shooting -3, and Fleur van Beek also breaking par after subbing into the competition.

After Tuesday's round, Mizzou found itself in sixth, three strokes behind Arizona State in fourth, and two behind Vanderbilt. The Tigers came alive in the final round, jumping into fifth for that final qualifying spot early. Despite the early success, they found some struggles in the back nine, but managed to find their swing again on the final three holes.

Senior Addie Dobson shot -4 in the final three holes of the round to help her squad put the Commodores to bed, and securing the last spot in the NCAA championships.

Fellow Senior Melanie Walker finished ninth in the entire region, shooting -3 across the three days of play. Freshman Ebba Liljeberg was just behind her, coming in as the second Tiger at +2.

Up Next - Mizzou will travel to Carlsbad, California for the NCAA championship competition. The women will play at Omni La Costa Resort, with the first round set to start on Friday, May 22.
