Tracking showers and storms Friday ahead of a sunny and warm Saturday

TODAY: Friday starts dry, with showers returning during the mid-morning, around 9 a.m. or so. Showers will begin in the northwest and spread southeast. Rain chances increase through the day, becoming thunderstorm chances by the afternoon. Storms are likely to remain weak, but if instability is slightly higher than expected, the strongest storms could produce hail and/or gusty winds. Temperatures may reach the 60s ahead of rain, and then stagnate through the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Rain will move south, beginning its exit around 7 p.m., but some in the south may have rain through sunset, while those in the north are drier sooner. Most will see less than a quarter inch of rain, but where the bulk of the rain is during the afternoon and evening will have a chance at a half inch or more with thunderstorms creating bigger drops.

EXTENDED: Temperatures start in the 40s Saturday, before climbing to near 80 under sunny skies. Another round of rain comes in the way of showers overnight into Sunday morning, but Sunday afternoon appears dry. Highs on Mother's Day land in the 60s. A warming trend keeps us more reliably in the 70s each day next week, with a shot at 80 on Tuesday. Slim rain chances are possible on Tuesday.
