Tracking storms with heavy rain and strong winds late tonight

TONIGHT: Storms late with gusty winds and heavy rain. Lows in the upper 50s to around 60.

TOMORROW: Rain exits early, with a cooler day ahead. Highs reach the low 70s.

EXTENDED: We'll remain warm and muggy into this evening as storms develop ahead of a cold front that will bring widespread rain and a dew strong wind gusts heading into the overnight hours. The timeline has not changed much since earlier forecasts, with a line of strong storms approaching from the west after 11:00 p.m., gradually weakening as it moves east as we lose instability overnight. The severe threat will be highest along Highway 65, then wane from there. Storms will likely move into the Highway 63 corridor between midnight and 1:00 a.m., bringing the potential of isolated 40-60 mph wind gusts. Another 1-1.5" of rain is expected from this event through early tomorrow morning. Most of Friday is dry, with highs reaching the 70s behind the front with lower humidity. Saturday is a nice start to the weekend with dry weather and highs in the 70s through most of the day, but we could see another cluster of some rain and storms overnight. Sunday will be mild, but we'll closely watch a system out over the Plains that could bring storms by evening that could linger into Monday. Some of these could end up being strong to severe, especially across southwest Missouri.
