Tracking chances for severe storms after a warm and muggy afternoon

TODAY: Tuesday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. For the most detailed information, head on over to our weather alert day blog. Most of Tuesday is dry and warm. Highs are forecast in the mid-80s, with dewpoints in the 60s adding a muggy feel to the air. Tuesday will again be breezy, much like Monday. Storms are possible this afternoon, but not likely. If storms can develop in the west this afternoon, they would be capable of severe hazards as the atmosphere will be primed for strong storms. However, the most likely scenario is that storms develop further south and west during the heat of the day.

TONIGHT: This still impacts us, as these storms may carry a risk for hail and damaging winds into the region later tonight. Timing estimates put this activity in mid-Missouri between 7 and 9 p.m. Activity will weaken with time, lowering the severe threat as storms move east.

EXTENDED: Some showers may be present on Wednesday morning. This remnant rainfall and cloud cover will complicate our threat for severe storms later in the evening as instability tries to rebuild itself. Highs are cooler on Wednesday, in the 70s. We'll be drier on Thursday, with highs in the 70s again. Another warm-up into the 80s comes on Friday ahead of another storm chance. Drier weather is expected this weekend.
