COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A familiar name in the Mid-Missouri hoops scene is taking the reins of Capital City boys basketball.

On Friday, the Jefferson City school district announced that former Hickman girls basketball coach Blair Scanlon will be the new head coach of the Cavalier boys team. Scanlon will take over with more than 20 years of experience in his pocket, including quite a bit of success at Rock Bridge High School as both an assistant and associate head coach.

At Rock Bridge, Scanlon worked under his dad, Jim Scanlon, who is already a Missouri Sports Hall of Famer having coach at Rock Bridge since 1983. While Blair worked with the Bruins, he helped lead the team to three Final Fours, as well as eight district championships. They also produced 13 all-state players.

"With more than 20 years of experience, I'm eager to get started, foster relationships with our players, and build a culture grounded in hard work, accountability, and pride," Scanlon said in a press release.

Most recently, Scanlon put in time leading the Hickman girls basketball team through the 2025-26 campaign, while first serving as an assistant coach for the boys squad. He's also coached at Linn High School, California High School and Southern Boone High School.

"Coach Scanlon will bring extensive experience and a championship mindset that will help guide the future of CCHS basketball," Capital City principal Beth Houf said in a press release.

In addition to leading the boys basketball team, Scanlon will serve as the high school's physical education teach in the 2026-27 school year.
