Child almost drowns in Benton County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 5-year-old boy is recovering after he almost drowned in Benton County just after 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to an incident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the boy was looking at the rising flood waters from a bridge at the intersection of Rambow Road and Beeman Ave., when he slipped and fell into the water.

The Lincoln Community Fire Protection District said in a release that crews were called for a man and a child hanging onto a tree.

The boy was swept under the bridge and resurfaced about 10 yards away before he was rescued.

The rescue was complete less than five minutes after firefighters got to the scene, according to the fire department.

The boy was taken to Bothwell Regional with moderate injuries.
