Mizzou softball earns first SEC series win behind strong first-inning hitting

AUBURN, Ala. (KMIZ)

Mizzou took down Auburn in a battle of the tigers, 6-3, clinching the team's first conference weekend series win of the 2026 season.

After shutting out the home side in Friday's contest, head coach Larissa Anderson and company came out firing in game two. With two runner on, Sidney Forrester brought in the first two scores on a triple early in the first inning. Abby Hay, Abby Carr, and Sophie Smith all followed suit, adding runs to that lead in the opening frame.

Auburn managed to respond and get one run back with a solo home run. However, Stefania Abruscato clobbered a long ball of her own to get the run right back, and extend the advantage back to five.

The home side started adding runs again in the third and fourth, but could never mount a full charge. Abby Carr came in to close out the win, and struck out the final batter with two runners on base to secure the team's first SEC series win of the year.

Up Next - Mizzou will take on Auburn in game three of the weekend. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
