Late rally from Mizzou baseball falls short against No. 25 Texas A&M

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Tigers' comeback fell short of an upset against the Aggies, 11-9.

Despite falling behind 10-1, Mizzou stormed all the way back and had a chance to take down the No. 25 team in the nation.

Texas A&M struck first, scoring the opening run of the game on a shallow RBI single to left field. The Tigers wasted no time responding though. A sacrifice fly from Donovan Jordan allowed Cam Benson to come home uncontested, leveling the contest at one a piece.

In the fourth inning, the Aggies really flexed their muscles, scoring seven runs in the top half alone to shoot out to an 8-1 lead off the back of a pair of home runs. They would go on to to tack on two more the following inning, extending their advantage to nine.

Head coach Kerrick Jackson and his Tigers showed no quit despite falling behind. They strung together six straight hits, which was capped off by a Cam Benson three-run homer to make it a 10-7 ballgame. After a scoreless sixth from both sides, Mizzou's offense heated up once again, bringing two more scores across to get the deficit to one.

However, A&M managed to hold strong and cling to that slight advantage, adding one more in the top of the ninth, and stonewalled Mizzou from getting an eventual game winner.

Up Next - Game two between the Tigers and the Aggies is set to take place on Saturday, March 28. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
