Tracking a wintry start to an overall spring-like week

TODAY: Monday starts dangerously cold, so bundle up as you head out the door. This ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day starts with subzero wind chills and wind gusts as high as 40-50 mph. However, by the lunch hours, we'll be notably calmer, as the greatest winds translate east of our region. Still, cold air keeps highs in the 20s at best, while wind chills are forecast in the teens through the afternoon.

TONIGHT: High pressure nudges into the region overnight, calming winds and turning them from the south through the early Tuesday morning. Temperatures are cold, in the teens, but notably warmer than they were this morning.

EXTENDED: South winds arrive by midday, driving highs into the 30s and 40s. This south wind will effectively be tied to a warm front that lifts north Tuesday night. Along the front, a weak area of low pressure will travel by just to our northeast, bringing us a slight chance for light showers and snow overnight. Accumulation of any precipitation, let alone snow, will be very limited thanks to short duration and very dry air in the low levels. We'll be back to sunshine the rest of the week, with more spring-like air. Mostly sunny skies are forecast through Saturday, with Wednesday bringing 60s back to the region, and highs forecast in the 70s Thursday through Saturday.
