Tracking strong winds, snow, and bitter cold through early Monday

TONIGHT: Light rain changing to snow showers around or shortly before sunset. 1" of accumulation or less is expected, but reduced visibility could be an issue as snow falls into late evening thanks to wind gusts approaching 50 mph. Lows in the mid-teens with wind chills around zero by tomorrow morning.

TOMORROW: Flurries and cloudy with gusty winds up to 35 mph. Highs in the upper 20s to around 30.

EXTENDED: A line of storms ahead of a cold front has pushed out of Mid-Missouri, making way for much colder air as temperatures begin to drop behind the boundary. Strong winds will be the main concern through the rest of the night, as gusts could approach 50 mph at times. Snow showers will continue through late tonight, with 0.5" to 1" of accumulation on grassy surfaces possible. Areas north of I-70 could potentially have to deal with refreezing as temperatures drop and pavement is still wet from evening rain. Temperatures will fall into the teens overnight, but with strong winds in place, wind chills could fall a few degrees below zero by daybreak. Monday is cold and blustery behind this system with gradual clearing, but temperatures are more than 20 degrees cooler than normal to start the week as we remain near the freezing mark. Another clipper system slides by on Tuesday night, bringing the potential for a few snow showers across northeastern Missouri. Impacts will be limited, but it will still be chilly with highs around 40 degrees. The rest of the week looks much more pleasant as a strong upper ridge begins to build, sending us rapidly into the 60s on Wednesday with mid-upper 70s to close out the week.
