Tracking warm and windy weather into the weekend, rain and snow on Sunday

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and less cold, with temperatures dropping into the 40s. Winds will be strong from the south, gusting between 35 to 45 mph late tonight.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and mild, with highs in the 50s and low 60s. Blustery, with northwesterly winds gusting up to 30 mph in northern Missouri.

EXTENDED: Warm and windy weather will continue through Saturday, with highs reaching the mid-60s and wind gusts up to 20 mph from the south. Sunday will also start warm, possibly hitting the low 60s before rain arrives in the late morning or early afternoon. A few thunderstorms are possible Sunday morning and afternoon ahead of a cold front, which will cause temperatures to drop quickly as it moves through. Precipitation will then change to snow late Sunday, and visibility may be poor in the evening with gusty winds up to 40 mph. Snow accumulations are expected to be light, possibly up to an inch or two in eastern Missouri. Bitterly cold air will move in Sunday night, with wind chills dropping to single digits or below zero by Monday morning. Most of Monday will remain below freezing, falling to near zero again Monday night, but a warmup is expected later next week.
