COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Higbee woman has sued the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in connection with her husband’s death in 2022.

Anna Campbell filed the lawsuit on Wednesday in Randolph County, accusing the MHTC of negligence.

Previous reporting shows Kevin Campbell and a 9-year-old passenger were killed in a crash on Country Road 2795 near Clark when their truck was hit by a Norfolk Southern train.

Both people were pronounced dead at the scene and a 12-year-old passenger was brought to University Hospital, according to previous reporting.

The lawsuit says the crossing was a “passive” crossing with no lights, gates or proper signage. It accuses the MHTC of failing ot maintain the crossing or provide adequate warnings to drivers.
