Mizzou women end regular-season with loss to No. 7 Oklahoma
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Despite trailing the No. 7 team in the nation by just six points at halftime, the Mizzou women's basketball team couldn't come back for a win in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers fell to No. 7 Oklahoma 84-78 in the regular-season finale.
With the loss, head coach Kellie Harper and her team move to 16-15 overall and 4-12 in Southeastern Conference action. MU ended the regular-season slate with three-straight games against Top-10 opponents, ending the year on a six-game losing streak.
Despite the loss, it was a career night for guard Shannon Dowell, who scored a career-high 33 points against the Sooners on 63 percent shooting from the floor. She was joined in the double-digit points club by guard Grace Slaughter, who ended with 15, and center Jordana Reisma, who ended with 13.
Although Coach Harper's team is never one for moral victories, the Tigers did keep things close against No. 7 Oklahoma, as Mizzou had hoped to send their seniors out with one more win in Columbia.
However, Dowell's performance was not enough to will her team to a big upset. Overall, MU shot 44 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range. The Tigers also got out-rebounded 54-35.
The game marks the end of the road, as far as the regular-season is concerned, for three Tiger seniors: guards Saniah Tyler and Jayla Smith, as well as Reisma. Coach Harper and company honored them before the game and even put them in the starting five for their final clash at Mizzou Arena.
Up next - Mizzou will hope to make some magic in the SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C. The action will start on Wednesday, March 4.
