Tracking a wintry mix tonight and a rainy week ahead
TODAY: I'm tracking a much cooler day as temperatures start in the mid-20s, only warming into the mid-40s by the afternoon hours. This will be thanks to northerly winds at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph and persistent cloud cover throughout the day.
TONIGHT: I'm tracking rain entering the area through the late afternoon and evening hours, but sleet and snow will gradually mix into the system overall. This mix will continue overnight, with snow becoming the slightly more dominant precipitation type for areas north of I-70. For areas along I-70, if accumulations are observed, they will be held to elevated surfaces, and areas south of I-70 will deal with mostly rain throughout the entirety of this event. Although these areas aren't expecting any noticeable impacts, the areas north of I-70 could still experience brief travel impacts, which is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect for this period of time. EXTENDED: I'm tracking any impacts that do occur quickly coming to an end by the later morning hours of Monday as precipitation chances exit and temperatures quickly warm from the near-freezing mark, getting into the upper 40s by the afternoon hours, even with continued cloud cover. Temperatures the rest of the week are expected to once again stay above average for this time of the year, starting in the 40s and 50s during the morning, warming into the 60s and low 70s for each afternoon of the week. The tradeoff is that almost every day, rain and thunderstorms will be in the forecast. Although some days, like Monday and Tuesday, will have higher confidence in widespread activity than others, the chance of precipitation remains for the entirety of the week.
