Tracking a brutally cold start to the week

THIS MORNING: Clear and cold, with early morning wind chills in the single digits. Winds remain blustery from the north up to 15 mph.

TODAY: Sunny and chilly, with high temperatures in the low to mid 30s. Winds will gradually ease throughout the day, decreasing to between 5 and 10 mph by the evening.

EXTENDED: After a brutally cold weekend, winter chill will persist through Monday night as high pressure moves over the area. Southerly winds will be strong on the opposite side, with gusts increasing to 30 mph by Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will rise nearly thirty degrees into the upper 50s and low 60s, accompanied by breezy and dry conditions, which may increase the risk of wildfires on Tuesday. A cold front will stall over the area into Wednesday, but is unlikely to produce significant impacts during the day. Once a disturbance moves along that boundary Wednesday night into early Thursday, scattered rain chances are expected, with potential for a quarter inch of rain. Snow might mix in across northern Missouri, though accumulations are unlikely with highs in the 50s midweek. Temperatures will stay warmer than average, in the 50s and 60s, through the weekend, though uncertainty grows after the end of the month.
