Mizzou baseball sweeps New Haven with third-straight run-rule victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team did not bring any fire extinguishers down to Florida with them, as the Tiger bats stayed flaming hot through all three games of the series against New Haven. On Sunday, skipper Kerrick Jackson's crew run-ruled the Chargers 16-2, in MU's third-straight run-rule victory of the weekend.
The win came on the back a stellar performance on the hill from left-hander Brady Kehlenbrink. In his second start of the season, he tossed for 5.0 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits, while punching out seven batters.
The Tigers did give up a run in the top of the first, but the bounced back in a big way at the dish. In the bottom half of that opening inning, Mizzou put up eight runs, courtesy of Sam Parker, Blaize Ward, Tyler Macon and Pierre Seals. That effort put MU up 8-1 over the Chargers.
The game-winning run came in the sixth inning, as Peyton Basler came in to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Sals.
Overall, Macon and Keegan Knutson led Mizzou with the team-best three RBI's apiece.
The bullpen was efficient for Coach Jackson in Sunday's win to secure the series sweep. After a pair of not-hit innings of relief, following Kehlenbrink's exit, left-hander Juan Villarreal came in in the sixth inning. He threw a scoreless, no-hit inning with a pair of strikeouts.
It was veteran Ian Lohse who closed things out for Mizzou on the bump in the seventh inning. He struck out the side in his one inning of work.
Up next - Mizzou will travel back to Columbia to open up Taylor Stadium. First, the Tigers will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by another game on Wednesday.
