Mizzou gymnastics hosts intrasquad meet to prepare for the postseason

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

With just three meets left in the regular season, head coach Shannon Welker and the Tiger gymnastics team is already looking ahead to the championship meets.

You can watch the full press conference with Coach Welker, as well gymnasts Elise Tisler and Maiya Terry in the video players below.

While the team will need to be at its best on the mats, they'll also need to be prepared for the quick turn arounds between competitions. With most of the postseason meets coming in the span of a few days, coach Welker wants this team to be prepared for those tight turns.

To do that, he staged an intrasquad meet just two days after the Mizzou Quad to ensure that his team is prepared for the feeling of competing again so quickly.

The Tigers had their top seven or eight competing as if it were a normal meet, with several other gymnasts getting practice runs on an alternate apparatus to ensure the team has as much depth as possible.

Kaia Tanskanen was a stand out, competing in all four events just two days after doing the same at the Mizzou quad. Freshman Kimarra Echols and Junior Hannah Horton also had no change in their workloads, doubling back in three events.

Up Next - The Tigers will return to the Hearnes Center for their final home meet of the year where they will host the Arkansas Razorbacks. First touch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.
