Tracking a cold start to a chilly weekend
TODAY: Friday is notably cooler. Temperatures in the 20s this morning will have us reaching for the coat, especially with wind chills in the teens for much of the morning. Winds are from the west around 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph through 7 a.m. in the east, with a relaxation of winds expected by noon. Under mostly sunny skies, highs reach near 40°.
TONIGHT: We again fall into the 20s early Saturday with a lighter north wind. Clouds return by sunrise. A slight chance for flurries comes in the west near HWY 65, but no accumulation is expected.
EXTENDED: Partly cloudy skies and north winds keep us again near 40°. North winds generally continue through Sunday and Monday as we transition to an arctic high that slides in from the north. This will pool cold air in the region, leaving highs in the 30s on Sunday and Monday. Early-morning temperatures drop into the teens by Monday. This cold comes with sunny skies, but as we warm into next week, clouds return. Highs are likely warming back into the 50s Tuesday through Thursday, with Wednesday likely nearing 60.
