Tracking frigid weather continuing through the start of the weekend

TODAY: I'm tracking clouds gradually increasing throughout the day as temperatures warm into the upper teens by the mid-afternoon hours. Northerly winds at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph will lead to temperatures feeling like they are in the single digits during this time. Light flurries will be possible during the early evening hours along and south of I-70, but little to no impacts are expected.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking clouds clearing throughout the overnight hours as winds continue to blow out of the north at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Air temperatures will be dropping near or just below zero by the end of the night, which will lead to wind chills nearing -10 areawide.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking below-zero wind chills lasting throughout the morning hours of Saturday, which is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect during this period. By the afternoon hours, sunshine will help temperatures warm into the low 20s before dropping back down into the single digits by Sunday morning. Another chance of flurries will be possible during the afternoon hours of Sunday, but once again, widespread or noticeable impacts are not expected. A gradual warming trend is expected throughout next week, but there will be one more possibility of mixed precipitation on Tuesday into Wednesday.
