Mark Mitchell’s overtime buzzer beater lifts Tiger hoops past Oklahoma

News conference after Mizzou beats Oklahoma

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

In the 215th meeting between Mizzou and Oklahoma the Tigers pulled off a nail bitting finish in overtime to a pair of buzzer beaters from Trent Pierce and Mark Mitchell to secure the home win 88-87.

Mizzou struck first jumping to a six point lead early. But the Sooner's kept themselves in the game rallying back to get ahead by one going into the half. Neither side could grab an edge, with the largest lead being five points. The Tigers were down three with five seconds to play, but Trent Pierce hit a three pointer as time expired to force overtime.

In the added time, OU took a lead and held it the entire period. The Tigers managed to tie it at 85, but a Xzayvuer Brown jumper with four seconds left looked to seal the deal for the Sooners. On the final possession, Mark Mitchell took the inbound all the way up the court, and with no time left, he drilled the game winning three over two defenders to shock Oklahoma and get Mizzou the win in OT.

Mitchell lead the team in scoring with 25, with T.O. Barrett and Jayden Stone also reaching the 20 point mark. In his first career start, Barrett made an immediate impact, ending the day with 21 points on 8-12 shooting in 39 minutes of play.

Up Next - Mizzou will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 17 Alabama on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
