Tracking a chance for snow showers ahead of this weekend’s arctic chill

TODAY: Friday starts mild, with temperatures in the 30s, and climbing to near 40 by midday ahead of a cold front that sweeps through from late morning to early afternoon. Behind the cold front, thick low clouds spread across the region, and likely bring scattered snow showers. This snow will be light and sporadic across the region, but some in the right spots may record up to a half an inch of snow. Otherwise, nothing to trace accumulations are likely for most.

TONIGHT: Windy and cold conditions fill in during the afternoon. Winds from the west northwest around 10-15 mph take wind chills into the 20s during the dinner hour.

EXTENDED: Saturday starts in the teens, a cold start. Afternoon highs may be more shocking, as highs only reach low 20s near Columbia, with some getting stuck in the teens. Sunday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as single digit lows yield subzero wind chills early in the day. Quiet weather returns for most of next week, with seasonable to seasonably cool high temperatures in the 20s to 40s.
