Tracking cold air with the coldest arriving this weekend

TODAY: Thursday is another cold one, this time starting bitterly cold. Lows between 10-20° will climb back into the mid-30s amid south winds. Skies start clear early, but we become partly to mostly cloudy as the day progresses.

TONIGHT: A weak trough will move through, switching winds and bringing clouds, but we expect largely dry conditions. Some snow showers may be possible near Quincy to St. Louis.

EXTENDED: We start Friday mild, with lows near 30°, but this is short lived as a cold front brings arctic air into the region by Friday afternoon. This cold air will trigger low clouds and snow chances behind the front. This will be on the scale of scattered and light snow showers. Trace amounts are likely in a sporadic manner across the region, with local spots picking up a half an inch in some cases. This could create some isolated slick spots, but widespread travel impacts are unlikely. Temperatures will fall back to the teens Saturday morning. Continued north winds keep highs in the 20s Saturday afternoon. Sunday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as lows start in the single digits raising concern for wind chills near zero. Cold stays to start next week with dry weather and highs in the 20s Monday.
