The Tigers looked like they'd get off to a fast start, as guard Abbey Schreacke hit the first of her four first half 3-pointers in the opening seconds of the game, but Coach Harper's team slowed down from there. The Roos went on a 12-4 scoring run over the next few minutes of the first quarter to take a five-point lead over Mizzou. In fact, Kansas City got up by as many as seven points in the second quarter.
However, Schreacke managed to keep her team in it with timely triples, as the only Tiger to hit double figures in the first half. Despite, the guard's 12 points before halftime, MU still went into the break down by two points.
That back and forth continued into a nail-biter of a second half at Mizzou Arena.
Guard Chloe Sottell had the hot hand in the third and fourth quarters for MU, tallying 12 of her game-best 23 total points. However, she didn't have enough of a supporting cast to get it done in regulation.
Kansas City tied up the game at 61 with less than a minute to go, to send Mizzou's final non-conference game of the year to overtime.
In extra minutes, Coach Harper's team just did enough, led by six points from Chloe Sotell to hold off an upset at the hands of the Roos.
In addition to Sotell, Schreacke( 12), Grace Slaughter (12) and Jordana Reisma (11) also got into double-digit scoring.
Up next - Mizzou will host No. 2 Texas to open up conference action at the Arena on Thursday, Jan. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
